Welcome to the 2007 season blog . We wanted to have a place within our own site where we can talk about our Experiences and our adventures and basically just keep everyone up to date on the goings on in the fishing world here in Prince Rupert, BC. I hope you all enjoy reading the stories and I think that I will keep a new blog page for every year. After all, fishing is my passion and my favorite subject to talk about! :)

I had one of the happiest guys I've ever met on the boat for this trip. It was his second time out and what a trip it turned out to be. He brought his sons out for an experience and they were just as much fun as he was. On day one of the trip he hooked and landed the first halibut over 100lbs this season. It was 130lbs of fish and he held that halibut up for pictures like it weighed 10 lbs. He was ecstatic and it showed.

Today we had the most interesting experience in salmon fishing that I have ever had. We fished hard and finally hooked into a BIG Spring (Chinook) salmon. We began to fight it and it suddenly took off like a rocket, taking out 100 yeards of line. Suddenly a sea lion head pops up and we knew why the spring was running. We turned the boat and began to chase after the spring and sea lion. As we caught up to the fish, so did the sea lion. It grabbed the fish and threw it into the air. We charged the sea lion with the boat at full speed trying to ram the sea lion and scare it off. He let the fish go and the fish ran again. We charged after the fish and again, so did the sea lion. He grabbed the fish and hurled it in the air again. We continued to try to scare him with the boat, yelling and running towards him but he was not going to be frightened that easily. He grabbed and threw up the fish two more times as we pursued him with the boat. It was astonishing that our hooks were still in it. The sea lion showed no fear of the boat and continued to pursue the salmon. As a team, we decided that no sea lion was going to get the best of us. With me driving the boat, Jim yelling directions, Glen ready with the net, and Tyler reeling like a madman, we were determined to land this big one. Tyler reeled rapidly as we drove the boat quickly towards the spring. We finally got close enought to net it. Glen went to net the fish, but the sea lion came up from under the boat, right between Glen and the fish, trying one last time to get the salmon. Glen rammed the net into the sea lions head, pushing him away as he netted the salmon. We pulled aboard our 40+ pound prize. Amazingly the only damage to the fish was that his gills had been ripped out. What a beauty, what a story. A once in a lifetime experience for all of us. Even the sea lions dont stand a chance against us.
